Cardiac image management firm Innovative Medical Solutions has debuted Tel-echo, a tele-echocardiography system designed to connect hospitals and offices, support medical services, and provide on-call support over any telecommunications line and from any ultrasound scanner, according to the Milwaukee-based firm.
Tel-echo was first installed in October 1999 at the Indiana Heart Institute at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. The system is compatible with ultrasound systems using either videotape or digital media for storage, according to IMS. Transmission-line choices include plain old telephone lines (POTS), ISDN, 3ISDN, T1, and DSL. With Tel-echo, exam data is encoded and sent during the exam as digital packets using a store-and-forward technique that allows near real-time interaction, according to IMS.
