GE buys Data Critical, moves into wireless healthcare

GE Medical Systems has agreed to acquire wireless communications firm Data Critical. The Bothell, WA-based Data Critical manufactures wireless systems that alert caregivers to emergency health situations. The products provide patient information, such as vital signs and electrocardiogram readouts, to remote units.

Data Critical shareholders will receive $3.75 per share in cash under the terms of the buyout. The transaction, which is subject to approval from Data Critical shareholders as well as regulatory authorities, is expected to be completed by the end of this year's third quarter.
