Dear AuntMinnie Member,
Healthcare information technologies like RIS and PACS can offer a competitive edge to radiology practices. But the key is often the way in which they're implemented, according to a speaker at this week's Radiology Business Management Association (RBMA) meeting in Las Vegas.
Radiologists often seem to think that healthcare IT systems should be designed for their needs. But the referring physician is really the most important customer, according to a talk by Dr. Murray Reicher, who is chairman of both an imaging center firm and PACS/RIS developer DR Systems of San Diego. Staff writer Jonathan S. Batchelor was on hand to report on Dr. Reicher's talk for our RIS Digital Community.
Imaging practices that can deliver Web-enabled reports and other features to the desktops of referring physicians will be able to capture and retain these physicians as customers, Reicher believes. But the reports need to be tailored to what the referring doc needs -- meaning that concise, structured reports are in, and free-form prose is out.
