Sun lands Canadian EHR contract

Computer workstation and operating system development firm Sun Microsystems of Santa Clara, CA, has been selected to develop an implement and electronic healthcare record (EHR) system by the government of British Columbia, Canada.

The firm's Vancouver-based division will design and build a Provincial Laboratory Information Solution (PLIS) and the interoperable EHR system as part of the Canada Health Infoway project, according to Sun.

First Consulting Group of Long Beach, CA, will partner with Sun on the design, construction, and implementation of the interoperable EHR. MedPlus, a healthcare information technology subsidiary of Quest Diagnostics, will design, build, and implement the PLIS, including a central repository of lab results, a system for reporting of test results, and a Web-based laboratory domain viewer for the province's electronic health infrastructure, Sun said.
