Dear Healthcare IT Insider,
Speech recognition technology is gaining converts as healthcare facilities seek to maximize the efficiency of their imaging operations.
In this edition's Insider Exclusive, we report on two European studies that provide strong evidence that speech recognition technology can reduce report generation time from days to hours, especially when used in conjunction with RIS/PACS.
One study, at Hammersmith Hospitals NHS Trust in London, illustrates how speech recognition technology eliminated "significant delays" in report transcription, resulting in a dramatic, positive impact on radiology service delivery.
A second case study, from Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich, found report turnaround time declined markedly, in some cases from 24 hours to 3.5 hours during routine working hours and to less than one hour on weekends. Click here for all the details.
In the U.S., University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio found that timely report turnaround also is essential for optimum patient care. Click here to read Dr. Rajeev Suri's research on how radiology reporting impacts productivity, patient and physician satisfaction, and finances.
On the teleradiology front, Norway is taking the lead on how to efficiently steer information from different RIS and PACS technology through its healthcare network of four local trusts.
