The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is planning to convert the American Health Information Community (AHIC) to an independent public-private partnership in the private sector by the fall of 2008.
The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) will be among the participants at a September meeting with HHS to discuss funding and resources for the new entity. A grant for the initiative will be awarded in November.
AHIC was created in 2005 to make recommendations to HHS on the development and adoption of healthcare information technology
