Philips Medical Systems of Andover, MA, will acquire Emergin of Boca Raton, FL, a provider of software designed to transmit medical alarm notifications throughout hospitals.
Emergin's alarm management and event notification software is designed to ensure that critical information is sent to the correct caregiver on a personal communication device of choice, such as a pager, wireless telephone, PDA, or LED sign.
The privately held software vendor has approximately 100 employees and estimated 2007 sales of $18 million. The terms of the transaction, which is expected to close before the end of this year, were not disclosed. Emergin would become part of Philips' Patient Monitoring business unit.
