Monitoring your IS software; synchronizing IT apps

Dear AuntMinnie Member,

Getting the most out of your information technology software is the theme this week in our Healthcare IT Digital Community.

Contributing writer Cynthia Keen reports on a pair of presentations from last week's RSNA meeting in Chicago, in which researchers discussed their use of third-party software applications to optimize their IT networks.

In the first presentation, a group from the University of Maryland in Baltimore deployed third-party software to help them monitor disparate IT applications such as RIS, PACS, and DICOM gateways. The software enables the various applications to be monitored through a single computer interface that updates continuously.

In a second presentation, a group from New York state used a different third-party application to synchronize data from their RIS and PACS networks, and share information with their speech recognition system and the hospital's electronic medical record system. They found that the application made tasks such as entering patient accession numbers easier.
