Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals of Wayne, NJ, has announced a shipment date of the end of April 2008 for its VistaTrak contrast management system.
Introduced at the 2007 RSNA meeting, VistaTrak is designed to enable imaging facilities to keep closer tabs on their contrast usage and improve patient safety by helping avoid contrast reaction events. The price for the product will soon be set, Bayer said.
The system uses radiofrequency identification device (RFID) technology to tag bottles of contrast media that can then be tracked as they move through the VistaTrak system. It includes inventory management tools, and can also help facilities manage the contrast-dosing behavior of individual technologists.
Bayer developed VistaTrak in collaboration with Mobile Aspects, a Pittsburgh-based developer of healthcare products based on RFID technology.
