Final audited figures for the 2009 Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) annual conference confirmed a 6% decline in attendance compared to HIMSS' 2008 meeting.
HIMSS 2009 attracted 27,429 total registrants, compared with 29,177 attendees at HIMSS 2008 and 24,202 at HIMSS 2007. There were 907 exhibiting companies and organizations at HIMSS 2009, representing a 4% decrease from 942 exhibitors at HIMSS 2008, but a 2% increase from the 889 exhibitors at HIMSS 2007.
The tabulations also noted that 12,564 total professional registrants attended in 2009, compared with 12,867 at HIMSS 2008, a decline of 2%. However, the number of professional registrants at HIMSS 2009 was up 19% compared to the 10,523 at HIMSS 2007.
At HIMSS 2009, 14% of attendees were based outside of the U.S., and 26% of the registrants were attending their first HIMSS conference.
The society's next annual conference is scheduled for March 1 through March 4, 2010, in Atlanta.
