SIIM 2010 Roundup: News from Minneapolis

Dear AuntMinnie Member,

The Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) annual meeting wrapped up on Sunday in Minneapolis, bringing to a close three and a half days of educational content and exhibits spanning the world of medical imaging informatics.

On Thursday morning, SIIM 2010 formally began with an opening general session that included a review of the past year in imaging informatics. Several luminary speakers brought the audience up-to-date on key technology advances in SIIM's first Year in Review address. See our coverage of talk by clicking here.

SIIM gave much emphasis to business intelligence analytics in the program this year, including a talk that concluded the opening general session. You can access our coverage here.

Another common theme was the present and future of image exchange, as reflected in two of our current articles on an analysis of imported images and the need to keep an eye on quality when importing CDs.

In the 2010 Dwyer Lecture, Paul Chang, MD, shared his sobering thoughts on how the healthcare IT industry is lagging behind the consumer IT sector. Other hot SIIM 2010 topics included the convergence of PACS and advanced visualization technology, advances in reporting and communication technology, and the use of image management by other specialties.
