The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Electronic Health Record (EHR) Association has published a white paper of recommendations on supporting a robust health information exchange (HIE) strategy with a pragmatic transport framework.
The recommendations, developed by 46 EHR supplier companies, are based on proven standards and successful HIE implementations around the world. They represent the collective view of the 46 EHR member companies that support the majority of installed, operational EHRs in the U.S.
Charles Parisot, chairman of the association's standards and interoperability workgroup, and manager of architecture and interoperability for GE Healthcare, stated that the recommendations would reduce work for providers, developers, and HIE organizations to achieve true interoperability by building on existing standards.
