Weill Cornell opens health informatics center

Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City has established the Center for Healthcare Informatics and Policy to improve healthcare through informatics and technology.

Dr. Rainu Kaushal, professor of medical informatics and chief of the division of quality and medical informatics at Weill Cornell, has been named executive director of the new center.

The center intends to develop collaborative programs in research, education, service, and innovation to identify the most effective ways to organize, manage, finance, and deliver healthcare through the use of informatics and technology. Its projects are expected to be performed by multidisciplinary teams of faculty in general medicine, public health, pathology, pediatrics, radiology, and urology.

The center is offering a two-year fellowship in a healthcare quality and medical informatics training program and a five-month health IT certificate program.
