Medical billing and practice management company Orion HealthCorp is using the Radiology Business Management Association (RBMA) radiology summit in Orlando, FL, this week to demonstrate the "data mashup" capabilities of its Osmium business intelligence software.
Data mashups are software applications or Web pages that combine two or more disparate sources into a new service, the firm said. Mashups link critical pieces of information that are spread across applications such as patient billing systems, proprietary databases, and financial accounting systems.
As an example, Orion described a mashup used by a radiology practice in Houston that merged U.S. census data with the practice's financial data to show an exceptionally strong reimbursement history per procedure for patients living in east Houston. The practice used the mashup findings to help decide whether to pursue a contract with a hospital located in that area.
