U.S. adults are concerned and skeptical about converting from paper to electronic medical records (EMRs), according to a May 2012 survey by market research firm Harris Interactive for Xerox.
Only 26% of the 2,147 adults who participated in Xerox's third annual electronic health records online survey said they want electronic medical records. In addition, only 40% said they believe digital records will deliver better, more efficient care.
However, in spite of patients' misgivings, caregivers are adopting the technology, according to Harris: 60% of respondents said that during their most recent visit to a healthcare professional, information was entered directly into a computer or mobile tablet.
