HIMSS Analytics said that three large urban hospital enterprises have reached the highest level of electronic medical record (EMR) adoption. The news was announced in conjunction with National Health IT (NHIT) Week.
The seventh annual NHIT Week, with activities primarily being held in Washington, DC, from September 10 to 14, aims to raise awareness of the contribution of electronic health records to improve healthcare treatment, reduce healthcare costs, and add well-paying jobs to the U.S. economy.
The following three hospitals achieved stage 7 of the HIMSS Analytics EMR Adoption Model (EMRAM):
- Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, a healthcare enterprise consisting of a 462-bed acute care hospital with a level I trauma center, five primary care clinics in Minneapolis, and several regional clinics in the Twin City area
- Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, MO, a nearly 600-bed, two-hospital healthcare system with a level I trauma center, regional clinics, and primary care practices
- University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, the state's only comprehensive academic medical center and regional referral center, with a 539-bed adult hospital and a 190-bed children's hospital
To date, 95 U.S. healthcare facilities (1.7%) of the more than 5,000 U.S. hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics database have attained stage 7.
