Nonprofit technology research firm ECRI Institute has published a new white paper on the readiness of healthcare organizations to share patient data electronically in a health information exchange (HIE) network.
Only 54% of respondents in a survey whose findings are included in the white paper indicated that their organization had formally assessed their HIE and interoperability needs. The survey addressed 10 issues relating to health information exchanges.
The survey was conducted by ECRI and its strategic partner, consulting firm s2a.
ECRI's applied solutions group expressed concern that failure by a healthcare organization to address gaps in the ability to exchange healthcare data may prevent it from meeting all meaningful use requirements regarding electronic health record adoption.
