Speech recognition and software developer Nuance Communications has purchased clinical document improvement (CDI) program developer J.A. Thomas and Assoc. (JATA).
Nuance believes the acquisition will create a combined package that will help hospitals transition to ICD-10 by providing more clinically accurate documentation. CDI strategies from JATA will be integrated into Nuance's clinical language understanding (CLU) technology, according to Nuance.
In turn, the combined offering will power both Dragon Medical 360 physician software and Quantim health information management (HIM) computer-assisted coding and CDI technology, Nuance said.
