Personal health record (PHR) provider MMRGlobal said that it has received a patent from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for online health record technology.
The patent (No. 8,301,466), titled "Method and System for Providing Online Records," covers methods for providing users with the ability to access and collect health records online, the company said. The patent expands the scope of MMRGlobal's product portfolio and is relevant to numerous product offerings that enable the secure exchange of health records between healthcare providers and other users.
MMRGlobal's MyMedicalRecords.com PHR securely stores an entire family's medical records, along with other documents such as copies of birth certificates, insurance policies, wills and trusts, and mortgages, the firm said.
In another development, MMRGlobal has begun the process of court-ordered proceedings against Surgery Center Management (SCM) under a $30 million settlement and patent license agreement with SCM. MMRGlobal claims that a minimum payment of $10 million is due. It is also in the process of contacting hospitals and healthcare professionals regarding the enforcement of the company's intellectual property rights and opportunity to license the technology.
