Dr. Farzad Mostashari confirmed on his Twitter account (@Farzad_ONC) that he will step down this fall from his position as chief of the U.S. Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC).
Mostashari took the reins at ONC as national coordinator for health IT in 2011 after previously serving as deputy national coordinator for health IT for two years. In an email announcing his departure to colleagues, Mostashari did not explain his reason for leaving ONC or specify his future plans, according to numerous published reports.
A replacement has not yet been named.
