Dear Healthcare IT Insider,
Cybersecurity is a huge problem in healthcare, if a report issued this week is any indication.
Internet security firm SANS found that 375 healthcare-related organizations were compromised over the study period, which ranged from September 2012 to October 2013. One of the biggest culprits was radiology software, which accounted for 7% of malicious Internet traffic attributed to healthcare.
What else did they find, and how can healthcare organizations deal with this problem? Get the details in this edition's Insider Exclusive, which you have access to before our regular members.
In other feature articles, health information exchange between unaffiliated healthcare providers was recently shown to significantly decrease the number of repeat emergency department imaging studies. Take in our coverage of the University of Michigan study by clicking here.
Clinical decision support also remains a hot topic. For example, a team from Massachusetts General Hospital found that decision-support software could improve the follow-up of incidental lung nodules.
In addition, patient-controlled, image-based electronic personal health records are popular with both physicians and patients alike, according to this study from the University of California, San Francisco.
