The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has announced $1 million in grant funding to support community projects for the Community Interoperability and Health Information Exchange (HIE) Program.
The funds will support up to 10 community organizations, state or local government agencies, or other community groups, helping them enable the flow of health information at the community level, HHS said.
Recipients of the awards will demonstrate the use of health IT to a wide range of healthcare providers, including those that are not eligible under the Medicare and Medicaid Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Programs. Examples include long-term and postacute-care providers, behavioral health providers, individuals and their caregivers, and providers in other care settings.
The submission deadline for grant applications is 11:59 p.m. EDT on June 16. The deadline to submit intent-to-apply notices is May 15, but intent-to-apply notices are not mandatory, HHS said. Applications are available here.
