The Medical Imaging and Technology Alliance (MITA), a division of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), has released the previously published NEMA/MITA CSP 1-2015 "Cybersecurity for Medical Imaging" white paper at RSNA 2015.
The paper was released at RSNA to raise awareness of the need for cybersecurity measures in the medical imaging and radiology industries, according to the organization.
The paper was developed for the medical imaging industry by the MITA Cybersecurity Taskforce, Medical Imaging Informatics Section. Medical imaging devices, like all computer systems, are subject to risks that may harm the software, hardware, or data security of the device, according to MITA. As imaging systems become increasingly connected to networks, security risks move beyond the system itself to intrusions across digital networks.
In the white paper, MITA addresses how cyberthreats pose a significant risk to patient safety, and clinical and business continuity in the practice of medical imaging. It also addresses why a combination of people, processes, and technologies is required to mitigate these risks. This publication also references the white paper NEMA CPSP 1-2015 "Supply Chain Best Practices."
The cybersecurity white paper may be downloaded for free on the MITA website.
