Printing and software developer Lexmark International is considering a divestiture plan that could involve selling off its hardware and software businesses, according to a report published this week by Reuters.
The January 12 Reuters article claimed that Lexmark is considering an asset sale after discussions with potential buyers for the entire company failed to produce any offers. The company is now in talks with private equity firms that might acquire either its hardware or software assets. A Lexmark spokesperson declined to comment to Reuters on the article.
Lexmark in October 2015 announced that it was exploring "strategic alternatives to enhance shareholder value." A company press release said its board of directors did not believe that the company's share price reflected its intrinsic value.
The company has made a number of strategic acquisitions over the past few years in healthcare IT, including Claron Technology in January 2015, PACSGear and Acuo Technologies in 2013, and Perceptive Software in 2010. In April 2015, Lexmark unveiled new branding for its healthcare IT division, now called Lexmark Healthcare.
