French imaging software developer Median Technologies and Microsoft have formed a joint global initiative to apply big-data analytics for processing and analyzing medical images.
Median's iBiopsy imaging biomarker phenotyping system will be installed on Microsoft's Azure cloud computing platform as part of the collaboration. On Azure, iBiopsy will be able to process and analyze medical images from the cloud, extracting biomarkers of disease in real-time for cancer diagnosis and monitoring purposes, according to the companies.
Median said it plans to eventually make iBiopsy available to medical facilities and physicians in the U.S., Europe, and Asia for image processing and data analytics purposes, helping to complement personalized cancer therapies and the growth in medical imaging data.
In addition to working together to help medical centers take advantage of the Azure platform's capabilities, the companies also said they will focus on developing novel predictive analytics methods based on machine learning and encryption capabilities.
