AuntMinnie.com Imaging Informatics Insider

Dear Imaging Informatics Insider,

It's no secret that physicians are informally using smartphones to view reference images sent to them by colleagues. But just how useful are these images clinically? A group of Israeli physicians wanted to find out, and we're bringing you their research as this edition's Insider Exclusive.

In the study, images of pediatric orthopedic trauma acquired with a smartphone camera were sent to pediatric orthopedic surgeons via the WhatsApp messaging service. The researchers then had the surgeons re-evaluate those same images on a conventional PACS workstation a month later to see how well their interpretations correlated.

How did they do? And what are the implications of the study for treating kids with broken limbs? Find out by clicking here for an article you get to read as an Imaging Informatics Insider before the rest of the AuntMinnie.com audience.
