Dr. Marc Willis from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston spearheaded the development of Radiology-TEACHES (Technology-Enhanced Appropriateness Criteria Home for Education Simulation). The educational initiative from the American College of Radiology (ACR) is designed to simulate the process of ordering imaging studies via integrated CDS. The online portal uses case vignettes from the ACR's Radiology Case Management System that are integrated with the National Decision Support Company's ACR Select CDS software.
The Baylor team has been expanding the program across the continuum of medical education, and the focus of this particular project was in allied health education, working with physician assistant students, Willis said.
"We believe that educating learners about how to appropriately, safely, and cost-effectively request imaging studies in a simulated environment with integrated clinical decision support can have a meaningful impact on the future of healthcare," he told AuntMinnie.com.
