A Georgia imaging center is notifying patients of a data breach it became aware of on July 10.
Express MRI of Peachtree Corners found that unauthorized emails were sent from an Express MRI account. Initially, center staff believed that no patient information was compromised. But on further review, the team determined that emails containing patient information could have been accessed, read, and/or forwarded. Express MRI said it does not believe that patients' social security numbers, financial or insurance information, or patient images were accessed.
The company plans to inform potentially affected patients about the breach via mail and will outline measures it has taken to deal with the incident, which includes reinforcing its information technology security systems, it said.
