ComMedica, a London-based PACS developer, has debuted its patient record library system, PiRiLiS, at Princess Margaret Hospital in Windsor, Berkshire, U.K. The product, which functions from a central database combining workflow capabilities, compression, encryption, and DICOM, delivers the entire patient record to either a handheld device or a workstation.
The Web-based application has also been in trials in the radiology department of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles for the past two years. The system has been shadowing existing procedures at the institution, and its use suggests an annual savings of $1.5 million in film costs alone, according to the company.
