Israeli PACS vendor Algotec will provide an enterprise-wide, Web-based PACS network to the University of Virginia Health Science Center (UVAHSC) in Charlottesville. The installation, scheduled to begin in October, will link the radiology department on the main campus with three satellite facilities.
The hospital's intranet will be used for Web-based communications throughout the enterprise, and also for teleradiology sites and at-home reading, according to the Raanana-based company. Two redundant EMC 8730 RAID archives will provide total capacity of 15 terabytes of online storage, while a tape library will provide long-term archiving for 45 TB, Algotec said.
Two independent data centers will be maintained to ensure continuity, and 35 MediPrime primary diagnostic reading stations will be deployed for soft-copy reading. In a previous order, Algotec had provided UVAHSC with an ICU PACS that linked the radiology department with the emergency room and intensive care units.
