Dear PACS Insider,
Breaking up is never easy. And that old expression can ring particularly true for PACS users moving on to a new vendor partner.
Migrating data to a new PACS network can be complicated by a number of factors, including the nature of electronic storage, proprietary storage techniques, storage system bandwidth, and problem entries in the database, according to Dr. Steven Horii of the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center.
Horii discussed data migration issues at PACS 2005: The Expanding Integrated Digital Healthcare Enterprise, a conference sponsored last week by the University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry in Rochester, NY.
As might be the case for many marriages, a prenuptial agreement of sorts may be wise for PACS purchasers. For those already with PACS, a migration or conversion agreement will be necessary, Horii said.
