Buying a PACS can confer a multitude of advantages, but getting the maximum value out of your investment may also require smart purchasing of key accessories. Visitors to the RSNA exhibit hall at McCormick Place will find a range of such options, including CD/DVD burners, PACS-specific furniture, imagers, routers, DICOM conversion products, and workflow-enhancing software.
CD/DVD burners are great tools for providing physicians and patients with images and reports, and vendors will bring a plethora of products to Chicago this year. Continuing a trend from the 2006 RSNA meeting, several firms will also discuss their ability to import images and information stored on portable media into PACS networks.
PACS furniture providers will also be on hand with various offerings. While it looks to be a slow show in terms of new product introductions in the imager space, companies will still have a variety of printers to browse.
Image routing modules also look to be attracting vendor activity, allowing users to move images where they need to be. A number of companies will point to the automated and customizable nature of their routing techniques in their booths this year.
