Dell ups ante in cloud archiving

Computer giant Dell of Round Rock, TX, has launched a series of cloud-based archiving technologies that include a data storage platform specifically designed for healthcare.

Dell launched a series of new products and services under its Intelligent Data Management line designed to make it easier to set up cloud-based archives. The company said that it was introducing new cloud solutions stacks made up of hardware, software, and services, as well as new consulting and technology deployment services and a new line of PowerEdge C-Series servers.

For the healthcare market, Dell launched both new archiving software and a new server. Medical Archiving is a new object-based archiving application that uses metadata to automatically manage length and location of content storage. It's based on industry-standard access protocols that enable organizations to choose their preferred software vendor platform, the company said. Medical Archiving offers healthcare users a self-managing "nearline" archive for medical content.

Meanwhile, Dell's new PowerEdge C6100 server is designed to offer high-performance computing for research and healthcare applications, but with an energy-efficient design. It features shared infrastructure and single-node serviceability to save space, weight, and time, according to the company.
