The addition of revenues from its acquisition of Amicas in April 2010 helped propel healthcare IT and advanced visualization developer Merge Healthcare to record revenue in its fourth quarter and in 2010.
Revenue increased to $46.2 million in the fourth quarter, compared with $19.3 million in the fourth quarter of 2009, before Merge completed the Amicas acquisition. The company also posted net income of $8.5 million in the most recent period, compared with a net loss of $2.1 million in the same quarter of 2009. The Q4 2010 numbers included an income tax benefit of $14.1 million "from release of valuation reserve," according to the company's financial statements.
For 2010, net sales more than doubled to $140.3 million, compared with $66.8 million in fiscal year 2009. Merge recorded a net loss for 2010 of $30.6 million, compared with net income of $300,000 in fiscal year 2009.
