With the help of PACS vendors integrating their products into their customers' electronic medical record (EMR) systems, the U.S. PACS market could reach $1.46 billion this year, according to a new study by healthcare market research firm Kalorama Information.
The report also forecasts double-digit annual growth for the U.S. PACS market through 2015.
To meet current and future customer needs, the report added, PACS vendors must deliver a comprehensive suite of embedded clinical tools and be able to integrate seamlessly with EMRs and health information exchanges.
The report also noted that customers are becoming "pickier" about which PACS they will use for managing their digital medical images, and they are demanding interoperability.
