A Massachusetts General Hospital team found the iPad could improve on the iPhone's performance in diagnosing head CT.
Previously, the researchers had determined that the iPhone was able to yield good sensitivity and high diagnostic accuracy in diagnosing head CT. Seeking to determine if the iPad could improve on the iPhone's record, they performed a comparative, retrospective study involving 20 head CT cases.
The team found that the iPad overcomes the iPhone's limitations by providing a greater field-of-view and better download speed, resulting in a faster time for image navigation and evaluation, said presenter Dr. Supriya Gupta.
"The study establishes potential use of iPad as a device for rendering rapid reads in emergency settings where time-oriented decisions can alter patient management," she said.
