Archive developer and medical informatics firm Candelis has struck a deal to provide its Astra cloud-hosted services for the secure transfer of medical images to Microsoft's HealthVault accounts.
Microsoft's HealthVault is a personal health application that allows patients to gather, store, and share their medical records, radiological images, and other health-related data online.
The agreement will allow patients to use standard Internet connections to control, archive, and gain access to their medical images stored in HealthVault. Patients have an option of sharing data stored in the Candelis Astra cloud with designated parties, including physicians and other family members.
The connection between the Astra services and Microsoft's HealthVault could also help foster easier physician access to their patients' imaging histories, thereby avoiding duplicated imaging and reducing the use of CD/DVD media to distribute medical images, according to Candelis.
