Archiving technology developer NetApp has partnered with Iron Mountain to offer cloud-based archiving and disaster recovery services.
The two companies will integrate NetApp's StorageGrid object storage software with two Iron Mountain medical data archiving systems: the Digital Record Center for Medical Images and its vendor-neutral archive.
The integrated services will enable healthcare organizations to control storage growth and reduce costs by offering a pay-as-you-go model. They also offer improved disaster recovery and compliance. Using cloud services means faster recoverability in the event of a disaster, and also allows organizations to meet HIPAA compliance standards that require a disaster recovery plan and policies for protecting that data.
In addition, IT departments no longer have to manage multiple storage systems with their interoperability challenges, making it easier to access and share information across the care continuum, according to the companies. And, as a managed service, data are automatically and continuously moved offsite and archived, freeing IT staff from managing data centers or performing backup and archiving tasks.
