A fond farewell to Chicago; an RSNA 'Christmas Carol'

Dear AuntMinnie Member,

CHICAGO - Is it just me, or did that go by fast? RSNA 2011 draws to a close this week, as radiology professionals from around the world begin heading home from medical imaging's showcase conference.

This year's meeting had many highlights, from a new focus on radiation dose reduction and tracking to exciting new technologies such as PET/MRI. The conference even saw what was probably its first "flash mob" (for pictures, check out the image gallery in our RADCast @ RSNA).

Behind the headlines, the rumor mill was flowing about attendance at the show, which many see as a leading indicator as to whether the U.S. radiology industry is finally beginning to pull out of its doldrums. Final attendance figures aren't in yet, but when they are we'll be the first to let you know.

In the meantime, we're pleased to bring you a humorous take on A Christmas Carol by Dr. Sam Friedman, radiologist, PACS blogger, and occasional AuntMinnie columnist. Dr. Friedman's rendition takes us on a tour of the RSNA meeting's past, present, and future, serving as both a cautionary tale and a vision of hope for our specialty's future.

Give it a read by clicking here, and be sure to check our RADCast @ RSNA at rsna.auntminnie.com as we continue to serve up coverage from this week's meeting.

Safe travels!
