PACS industry veteran Curt Holzer died on April 11 after suffering a traumatic brain injury following a fall in his home in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. He was 66.
Holzer served at a number of medical imaging and PACS companies over the years, beginning his career with Advanced Video Processing (AVP), one of the first developers of teleradiology software until it was bought by defense contractor E-Systems in 1992.
Holzer is perhaps best known for his tenure as director of global marketing at DeJarnette Research Systems from 1994-1998. He was instrumental in working with the U.S. military to set up a teleradiology bridge for transmitting images from a CT scanner in the field to U.S. hospitals. He also helped DeJarnette bid successfully with IBM on the Digital Information Network Picture Archival Communications System (DINPACS) military PACS project, according to his longtime colleague, Bill Knight.
After leaving DeJarnette, Holzer founded MedMark, his own medical marketing firm, as well as HealthSphere, a nonprofit organization.
