Dell and Siemens Healthcare have been selected by a large Southern California hospital to expand its imaging archiving capacity to address a large increase in long-term storage demand from the healthcare center's adoption of 3D tomosynthesis.
The agreement with Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center calls for Siemens Image Sharing and Archive (ISA) system, supported by Dell clinical data management software, to provide a cloud-based, vendor-neutral archive for storing and sharing medical images and related clinical data.
Pomona Valley's need for expanded storage is linked to its decision to routinely apply 3D breast imaging tomosynthesis for women receiving mammographic services at the 453-bed acute care hospital, which serves eastern Los Angeles and western San Bernardino counties. 3D tomosynthesis requires up to 20 times more storage than full-field digital mammography, according to Dell. The center will use the archive system for all other images as well, including cardiac, orthopedic and oncology clinical data.
The Dell Cloud Clinical Archive also will provide redundant archiving support for Siemens Healthcare Computing Center. The cloud-based vendor-neutral medical image archive is now managing more than 78 million clinical studies and supporting more than 800 clinical facilities, according to Dell.
