Agfa HealthCare has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance for new 3D processing and clinical applications on its universal Xero viewer.
An optional feature set available on Xero, Xero Xtend offers advanced visualization capabilities such as maximum intensity projection (MIP), multiplanar reconstruction (MPR), and 3D visualization tools, according to the vendor. Agfa said it has also included clinical applications for orthopedics, mammography, and nuclear medicine. With the new FDA clearance, Xero Xtend can be used for diagnostic viewing on desktop devices.
Agfa has also added other enhancements for Xero. Uncompressed or nonlossy-compressed images intended for "presentation" may now be used for diagnosis or screening when viewed on monitors that have received FDA clearance, according to the company.
In addition, Xero's Full Fidelity Mobile capability for Apple's iPad now supports electrocardiogram images and reports, Agfa said.
