Elekta unveils respiratory immobilization technique

Swedish radiation therapy firm Elekta has introduced Active Breathing Coordinator, a technique designed to reproducibly immobilize respiratory motion of organs and tumors in the thorax and abdomen.

Active Breathing Coordinator allows patients to accurately immobilize their breathing motion, enabling substantial escalation in dose prescription and sparing of healthy tissue through reduction of margins, according to the Stockholm-based firm. Elekta said it has delivered the first systems to several sites in Europe, North America, and Asia.
