GE Medical Systems posted second-quarter revenues of $2.2 billion, up 13% compared with the $2 billion reported in the second quarter of 2000. For the period (end-June 30), the Waukesha, WI-based vendor had net income of $401 million, compared with net income of $356 million in the same period last year.
In quarterly highlights, GE said that it experienced double-digit growth in most modalities, and a 17% increase in healthcare services orders. GE booked $350 million in MR orders, up 21% from last year. Ultrasound sales climbed 19% to almost $200 million, while PET orders climbed 87% to total nearly $100 million.
Orders for GE's healthcare IT systems rose 36% to more than $340 million, including increases of more than 100% for the vendor's image archiving systems and a 55% increase in patient monitoring and clinical information systems. In CT highlights, GE said that it has received more than 50 orders worldwide for LightSpeed 16, its 16-slice CT scanner that launched in the second quarter.
