Siemens Medical Solutions has introduced a dose-area module as an add-on to its Mobilett family of portable x-ray systems. The equipment is used to measure the amount of radiation emitted during x-ray exams, allowing clinicians to monitor exposure during any exam performed on the Malvern, PA-based vendor’s system.
The product measures both the absorbed radiation dose and the area exposed, and is automatically activated and performs a system test each time the main system switch is turned on. The system test also helps clinicians determine if the system needs to be recalibrated or serviced. The dose measured during exams is displayed for the clinician and recorded, and is only erased when the machine is reset.
The technology is currently required on all portable x-ray systems sold in Europe, and is now being offered to U.S. customers.
