Varian Medical Systems of Palo Alto, CA has contracted with Toshiba Medical Systems and its partner, Sanko Medical Systems of China to operate a Varian-authorized x-ray tube service center in the People’s Republic of China.
Sanko will operate the new tube facility in Beijing, giving hospitals and clinics in China access to cost-competitive replacements for Varian tubes designed for Toshiba scanners. The three companies plan to eventually expand the relationship to include the full range of Varian’s non-proprietary x-ray tube products.
In other Varian news, Richard M. Levy was elected board chairman, replacing Richard W. Vieser, who retires in February. Levy will continue as president and CEO.
