Multimodality vendor GE Medical Systems is changing its name to GE Healthcare, according to a spokesperson for the Waukesha, WI, company.
GE says the change is more than just cosmetic, and reflects an overall repositioning of the GE portfolio by GE CEO Jeffrey Immelt. The change "signifies the evolution and expansion of our business into a broader realm of medicine to meet the changing needs of the industry," according to company spokesperson Britt Zarling.
The company’s pending acquisition of contrast developer Amersham Health is a sign of GE’s shifting focus in healthcare, Zarling said in an e-mail to AuntMinnie.com. GE Healthcare’s new focus will include the merging of bioscience and medical imaging to reflect the company’s more comprehensive portfolio of products and services, she said.
