U.S. researchers are reporting on a new PET technique that they say can help differentiate malignant from benign breast tissue, and can also detect local and distant metastases from primary breast cancer.
The technique, called dual-time-point PET, involves scanning patients at two separate intervals in order to quantify radiotracer uptake, according to an article we're featuring this week in our Molecular Imaging Digital Community by staff writer Jonathan S. Batchelor.
The researchers found that while malignant tissue showed positive changes in radiotracer uptake between the two imaging time points, normal breast tissue showed either no change or a negative change.
