ART wins patent for breast physiology imaging

Medical device firm ART Advanced Research Technologies of Montreal has received a patent from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for breast physiology imaging, the company said.

Patent number 7,286,869, "Choice of wavelengths for multi-wavelength optical imaging," is for selection of the company's SoftScan optical breast imaging system's optical wavelengths. The use of this method within an optical medical imaging device allows significant improvement in the recovery of precise images of physiological components, according to ART.

SoftScan is designed as a complementary diagnostic tool to mammography for the detection and treatment monitoring of breast cancer.
