Dear AuntMinnie Member,
By almost any standard, 2007 was a blockbuster year for breast MRI. Several clinical studies pointed to MRI's utility in breast imaging, and the modality won an endorsement from the American Cancer Society recommending its use alongside conventional mammography in screening high-risk women.
But there's room for more research on breast MRI, particularly regarding its impact on the surgical outcomes of women diagnosed with breast cancer. Today we're featuring an article by staff writer Kate Madden Yee on just that topic in our MRI Digital Community.
A group from the University of California, San Diego wanted to assess pre-operative MRI's impact on mastectomy rates and other surgical outcomes measures. The question had particular relevance given the rapid increase in breast MRI utilization at the facility.
What impact did breast MRI have on outcomes? Find out by clicking here.
In other news in the community, learn about a new study indicating that female patients may be more likely to experience reactions to gadolinium-based MRI contrast media. That story is available by clicking here. And a third article in the community, available here, examines the use of a low-field MRI scanner to guide surgical decisions. Visit our MRI Digital Community at mri.auntminnie.com for these stories and more.
Finally, this is the last Letter from the Editor you'll receive from AuntMinnie.com in 2007, and we'd like to take the opportunity to thank you for your support. It was a tough year for medical imaging, but our Web site continues to grow and prosper, thanks to support from our members and sponsors.
In what's become an annual tradition, we've compiled a list of the Top 10 articles on AuntMinnie.com over the course of the past year, as measured by the number of page views they've received. The list is an excellent way to see what was hot in radiology in 2007. To view it, just click here.
